Commission for The Hildegard Collective

We are launching a new project to support our newest partner, The Hildegard Collective!
The Hildegard Collective is a community specifically designed for Catholic Musicians to connect, collaborate, learn and grow.
The newest piece will be a setting of the Stabat Mater for choir and orchestra.
The hymn, Stabat Mater, was written in the 13th Century ascribed to Jacopone da Todi, an Italian Franciscan friar. It depicts the Blessed Mother standing at the foot of the Cross in her sorrow of seeing her Son crucified. In fact, the first line, Stabat Mater dolorosa juxta Crucem lacrimosa, dum pendebat Filius sets the scene: The sorrowful mother was standing beside the Cross weeping, while her Son was hanging.
This new setting will be in English using a poignant translation by hymnwriter Kathleen Pluth that stays true to the meter and rhyme scheme of the original Latin.
